Chiang Mai is renowed for both its wonderful handicraft products and its magnificent natural surroundings. Therefore, the aim of the 'Hot Springs and Handicraft' tour is to allow you to learn more about these traditional industries as well as experience one of the most spectacular mountainscapes in North Thailand.   

Heading East out of Chiang Mai the first stop on this tour takes you to the Thai Silk-Village in San Kam Paeng, where you will learn about the Thai silk making process as well as find out how to tell the difference between real 100% silk and fake silk products! You will also get the chance to purchase some high-quality silk products at a fraction of the price you would pay for them back in your home countries.  

The tour will then stop at the Bo Sang Umbrella Village where you will get the chance to walk around the village and learn about the umbrella making process and even take part in painting your own Umbrella. 

Having spent the first part of the morning on your feet, you are then taken to the Hot-Springs, where you can soothe away any aches or pains in the hot foot-pools or instead choose to bathe in the mineral baths. From the hotsprings you then begin your acsent up into the Mae Kam Pong valley - a stunning mountain valley surrounded by lush intermontane tropical forest and wonderful plant and animal life.   

You are treated to lunch at Tharn Thong Mountain lodge, which overlooks a wonderful mounatain river and is set within a stunning ladscaped mountain garden. After lunch you get the choice to either visit the coffee and vanilla plantations at the local King's  Royal Project or embark on a short 1-2 hr trek into the surrounding forests. 

On your return back to Chiang Mai you will get to experience one more natural wonder, which is the magnificent chamber of Mae-On cave!

We took this tour with Alex with 4 adults and our 7 month-old son...we had a great relaxed day...first to a small and animal-friendly elephant camp (not sure wether this is actually part of this tour, but it is possible, just ask ahead) than the intersting silk farm with a perfect ending at the open air hot spring bathing pool, which our little boy liked especially..Great fun!

A fascinating insight into how a substance made by a little white moth can be transformed into a shirt.
The open air hot spring bathing pool was wonderfully relaxing. Imagine actually swimming in a moderately hot bath. The foot masssage afterwards is a must. It almost sent me to sleep!

For example, after spending a couple of nights in the mountains immersing yourself in local culture, why not also experience some adventure activities such as climbing, rafting or mountain biking or indulge in a relaxing spa treatment. The Multi Xplorer option is highly recommended for travellers who would like to experience the many different pursuits Chiang Mai has to offer. If you're not interested in making a Multi Xplorer itinerary, and only want to book one tour or activity, then please use the booking tab on the right-hand side of the page.

How to Make a Multi Xplorer Booking:
Simply click on the "Add to my Multi Xplorer Itinerary" at the bottom of your chosen tour/activity and it will automatically update your multi xplorer itinerary. To view your current multi xplorer itinerary click on the "View my Multi Xplorer Itinerary" link. Should you wish to delete a chosen tour or activity, then deselect the check box and press the "Update Itinerary" tab.
